April Results, Next Game May 14

Greetings all!

Yet another great night of pokering! Thanks to all who came down our way to make it happen.

Before we get to the winners, I’d like to personally thank everyone for a few things. In no particular order, thank you:

  • for making our newest player, Ben S., feel welcome to our game. Ben, we hope to see you again at future games.
  • for helping us get the game started on time, and, indeed, for being there in the first place. We can’t tell you how much we appreciate your dedication to our game and your willingness to be a part of it.
  • to those who helped us put a hurting on the bottle of Maker’s Mark out on the back deck.
  • to those who helped us clean up after the game. Although I don’t particularly remember your efforts (see previous bullet point), it was really nice to come down this morning to a clean house.
  • for helping me count the money (de Monet, DE MONET!) at the end of the night. As some of you know, I played a key role in the aforementioned hurting of the aforementioned bottle of Maker’s Mark. ‘Nuff said.
Enough of all that. On to the winners! Congratulations goes out to:
  1. Frank G.
  2. Tim W.
  3. Deb G.
  4. Mark Z.
And for the points race as of April…
Our next game will be on May 14th at 7:00PM. Look for an invite from pingg.com soon.

March Results, Next Game April 16

Greetings!

As always, we thank you for coming down to play in our humble card game. Even though yours truly didn’t make the final table, he had whiskey. So I had that going for me. Which was nice.

Thanks for making our newest player, Lenny L., feel welcome. Lenny, we hope to see you at our future games.

Before we get to the winners, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for showing up on time. The bonus incentive helped us get our game started at an unprecedented 7:03PM, which helps the game end at a reasonable time. There are certain parties here who live here who really appreciate that (she shall remain nameless), but when this person’s happy, everybody’s happy. You feelin’ me?

Anyway, on to the winners and such. Congratulations to:

  1. Craig H.
  2. Gary G.
  3. Chris M.
  4. Mark Z.

Which, naturally, leads to the following points race results:

Our next game will be on April 16. Be on the lookout for an invite from pingg soon.

Thanks again!

New Rules for 2011

We’re making a couple of changes in the rules this year. Please review them and let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Chip Bonus

You’ve probably already surmised that I was one of the “other hosts” that Russell mentioned in his email from a few days ago. We will be instituting the same chip bonus rule for largely the same reasons. The bonus breaks down like this:

  • Game starts promptly at 7:00PM.
  • Players start with 5,000 chips.
  • Players who arrive on time (before 7:00PM) receive a 5,000 chip bonus.
  • At 7:30 sharp any unattended chipstacks will be removed from play.

If you are running late due to some unforeseen circumstance, please call and give your ETA.

Russell said it best in his email, but I’ll echo his comments here. This is not about arbitrarily flexing some kind of despotic muscle. This change in rules is out of respect for those who arrive on time for the game, and it will hopefully get the game started on time (which helps the gameend at a more reasonable time). In addition, it gives us a little more time to deal with scheduling snafus without holding up the game.

Big Blind Rule

I mentioned it in our last game, but for those who couldn’t make it, we’re eliminating what came to be known as the Blinds Rule. In short, if you were in the blinds and did not have enough chips to meet the blinds, you were eligible for the equivalent of the blinds; e,g., if the blinds were 100/200 and you only had 100 chips in the BB, you were eligible for 200 chips from each caller.

Anyway, that rule is no more. From now on, you’re eligible for only what you put into the pot; i.e., in the example above, you would only be eligible for 100 chips per caller.

Beyond these changes, it’s the same crazy game as before. We hope you will continue to be a part of our game…we couldn’t do it without you!

February 2011 Results, Next Game March 12

  1. Michael D.
  2. Ant.
  3. Craig H.

Points Race

Our next game will be on Saturday, March 12. Look for an invitation soon. NOTE: I’m fed up with Evite, and just found out they were recently purchased by Ticketbastard, so I’m done. I’ll probably use pingg.com; a lot of people seem to like it.

Also, a post containing a few changes in the way we do things will be coming. Stay tuned!

2010 TOCOI Results

Thanks to everyone who came down to play in our 2010 Tournament of Champions Open Invitational. Oddly, only one of our chip bonus leaders (the 2010 Regular Season winner) made the money; everyone else received little if any bonus!

Anyway, congratulations to our winners:

  • Chuck G.
  • Michael N.
  • Danny S.
  • Russell W.

Once again, we had a great time, and hope you did to. Hope to see you at the tables for our 2011 Season!

Updates galore, TOCOI on January 22.

Greetings all!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the site. Sorry about that; things have been rather chaotic over the last few months, and poker has been pretty far down on the priority list.

We’ve wrapped up another successful season of the Second Saturday Showdown. Once again, we can’t thank you enough for coming out to play. We really do appreciate the fact that we have such a large group of friends that love to play poker as much as we do. We hope to see you at the tables in 2011!

Before we get into the results for the recent games, congratulations to the 2010 Regular Season winner Russell W. Well played!

Recent Winners

Congratulations to our recent winners:

October

  1. Rick D.
  2. Michael N.
  3. Russell W.
  4. Danny S.
  5. Justin C.

December

  1. Tom S.
  2. Russell W.
  3. Mark Z.
  4. Sonny F.

Tournament of Champions Open Invitational

As usual, we will close out the 2010 Season with our Tournament of Champions Open Invitational (TOCOI). The game will be held at our house at 7:00PM on Saturday, January 22. Here’s the way it works:

  • The buyin is 2.5 times the regular buyin ($50).
  • Anyone is eligible to play, and all players start with a base chipstack of 10,000 chips.
  • Players are awarded a bonus of 50 chips per point (based on the points standings) above the average score (24).
  • An attendance bonus of 500 chips is awarded to those who attended 7 or more games during the regular season.

Here’s how the chipstack bonuses shake out:

September Results, Next Game Probably Oct. 16

Greetings all!

Thanks once again for coming down to the game on Saturday. We had a great time and hope you did, too.

Congratulations to our newest player, Roy, for his victory, and to our other winners for their impressive showing:

  1. Roy M.
  2. Ant.
  3. Craig H.
  4. Russell W.
  5. Chuck G.

Check out the current points race below.

Our next game will probably be on October 16. That’s right: technically, it’s not the Second Saturday, but it is a Saturday, so we should be OK with the Waxhaw Gaming Commission. Look for an evite coming soon with the actual date and time. And no, I’m not using that weirdo “New Evite Beta” thing. That thing is just plain criminal.

Hope to see you then. Talk to you soon.
